- CBS will air an unprecedented number of original programming hours this summer. The lineup will include seven total hours of original programming, three of which will air on Sunday. - Broadway actress Laura Benanti is slated to host the Drama Desk Awards. The ceremony is set for June 1 at New York’s Town Hall venue. The Drama Desk Awards are the only NYC theatre honors that does not divide competition between Broadway and Off-Broadway. To read more on the awards, click here.
- Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II director John Woo has been selected as the head of the jury for the competition section of the Beijing International Film Festival. The festival will run April 16-23. 10 prizes will be awarded. For more information, click here.
- Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films has acquired rights to The Secret Life of Bees author Sue Monk Kidd’s latest novel The Invention of Wings. The book tells the real-life story of two young abolitionist sisters. “In her book, Sue Monk Kidd has given us such a rich narrative, compelling characters, and a rare historical perspective that we know will be the ideal foundation for a wonderful film,” Winfrey said in a statement.
