If you’ve seen Spike Jonze’s Her, you’ll definitely want to check out Her: Love In The Modern Age, Lance Bangs’ documentary short that chronicles some of the reactions to the movie. The 15-minute film takes a look at love in the modern age through the eyes of various actors, writers, musicians, and culture experts, including Olivia Wilde, Bret Easton Ellis, and Charlene Yi, and it does so in a way that is almost heartbreakingly relatable. The short can be found here.
Speaking of Spike Jonze, Campbell Hooper’s 43,000 Feet feels like it would fit right in with the rest of that filmmaker’s oeuvre. The nine minute film chronicles a statistician’s last moments before he is sucked out of an airplane at 43,000 feet – a dark setup, to be sure, but one that Hooper approaches with surprising playfulness and style. Take a look at the short here.
For a quick blast from the past, try Consent, a sharp little six-minute short from early in Up in the Air and Juno director Jason Reitman’s filmography. It tells the tale of two college students at the end of a blind date who feel the need to consult their lawyers before having sex. All of Reitman’s wit is present here, making for a quick, quippy treat. See the film and a few other Reitman gems here.
