Oklahoma City University set a new standard with 197 student-athletes making the Fall 2013 Athletic Director’s List. The Athletic Director’s List recognizes those Stars who posted at least a 3.0 grade-point average in the semester.
The fall semester’s number eclipsed the 194 who made the Fall 2012 Athletic Director’s List. The Stars’ combined GPA added up to 3.15 for the Fall 2013 semester. OCU student-athletes have maintained a 3.0 combined GPA for the past 10 years.
“I’m so proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes,” OCU athletic director Jim Abbott said. “They truly are students first. Playing sports is not the easy way to go through college. It’s demanding from a time standpoint, physically and mentally. Year after year our students deliver in both the classroom and on the playing fields. It’s a testament to their perseverance and hard work and a testament to the terrific faculty and coaches at Oklahoma City University.”
Cheerleading had the most members on the Athletic Director’s List with 34 who received the accolade. OCU’s NAIA men’s cross country championship team boasted of 11 honorees.
Among the 197, 113 had a 3.5 or better, while 10 achieved a 4.0 or above GPA.
