Oklahoma City University defeated Texas Wesleyan 96-61 on Thursday, Jan. 23 at Abe Lemons Arena.
The Stars obtained a single-game team program-record of 20 3-pointers. In addition, Cara Pugh tied the single-game individual mark with eight 3-pointers. Pugh shares the school record with Patricia Ordonez, who hit eight 3-pointers on March 22, 1988.
Kayla MacKenzie, OCU senior, made seven 3-pointers and produced 29 of the teams points. Ouleymatou Coulibaly, OCU junior, made 16 points and Yvonte Neal, OCU junior, made 15 points. Markeish Johnson, OCU sophomore, contributed 3 points. The Stars made 20 of their 35 3-point attempts, breaking the previous record of 18.
“It was an offensive explosion,” OCU coach Latricia Trammell said. “It wasn’t just one person. We moved the ball and shared it. The girls are excited about this win.”
The Stars used a 14-0 run to lead Texas Wesleyan in the first half. Their widest margin of the game was 37 points. In addition to their record-breaking amount of 3-pointers, the Stars also completed 25 assists.
The Stars will travel to Chickasha, Oklahoma to play USAO at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
