For a quirky and surprisingly touching animated treat, take a look at Wind, Robert Löbel’s four-minute short set in an incredibly windy world. Löbel is a master of the quietly brilliant sight gag, creating an incredibly detailed atmosphere without a stitch of dialogue. What’s more, the film’s conclusion is wonderfully poignant. · Another animated film that’s just as excellent is The Girl and the Fox, a five-minute short form Base14. The film tells the tale of a young girl seeking vengeance on a fox that has been killing her family’s livestock. Also dialogue-free, it’s a surprisingly sweet little short made all the more lovely by its simple but stunning imagery. Take a look at the film here.
· On a darker note, Jamie Jessett’s live-action The Man Who Delivers is a haunting look into a life of crime. Based on an interview with an anonymous drug dealer and a series of texts from his various clients, the short never shows us a human face, instead giving us only an actor’s narration. Jessett accompanies the text with slick, stylish imagery, making for an enthralling six minutes. The short can be found here
