- Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity and Spike Jonze’s Her were both named best picture of the year by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. It is the first tie for best picture since 1978, when Network and Rocky shared the honor. Other shared awards given by the association include Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) and Adele Exarchopoulous (Blue is the Warmest Color) for best actress and James Franco (Spring Breakers) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) for best supporting actor. - Leighton Meester will join James Franco and Chris O’Dowd in the upcoming Broadway revival of Of Mice and Men. The play will mark Meester’s Broadway debut. She will play the role of Curley’s wife, the woman who figures into the tragic ending of the Steinback tale. To read more on the play, click here.
- Universal’s Keanu Reeves vehicle 47 Ronin tanked at the Japanese box office. Though the film also stars popular Japanese talent such as Hiroyuki Sanada and Rinko Kikuchi, it only brought in an estimated $1.3 million from 333 nationwide releases.
