The School of Theater is offering early movie screening tickets to its students.
Screenings typically are hosted one to two months before the movie’s scheduled premiere.
A contact from Universal Pictures in California provides the tickets to the School of Theater.
Ashley Bright, student services and marketing coordinator for the School of Theater, distributes the tickets.
“I went and saw Rush a couple weeks before it came out,” said Ali Wonderly, theater/music freshman. “It was a great opportunity.”
The advanced screenings are hosted at either Harkins Bricktown Cinemas 16, 150 E. Reno Ave, or AMC Quail Springs Mall 24, 2501 W. Memorial Rd., depending on theater accommodations.
Students who attend are sometimes asked to give feedback on the film.
“I think they are trying to get an idea of interest, to see how many people actually go to the screening,” Bright said.
Theater students recently received information on an advanced screening for About Time, directed by Richard Curtis.
There was so much interest in the movie that Universal Pictures hosted several screenings and sent OCU more tickets.
While students from other departments are interested in the tickets, because of the relationship with Universal Pictures, and the limited amount of tickets available, tickets are only offered to theater students.
“As someone who is interested in going into film, I would really love to have that opportunity,” said Ali Wojcikiewicz, dance pedagogy junior.
The first 10 students to reply to Bright’s email receive two tickets each and are free to take whomever they want.
Theater students should watch their email for upcoming opportunities.
“Spots fill up pretty fast,” Bright said.
