The men’s soccer team is wrapping up their regular season with the mindset of making it to the playoffs.
Coach Brian Harvey’s players have approached their final regular season games as if it already was playoff time.
“The mindset right now is really good,” Harvey said. “We’ve been playing well. There is a lot of confidence within the group, and it’s important for us to gain home-court advantage going into the playoffs.”
The team’s record is 7-7-2.
Freshman Defender Judah Maxwell said he enjoys the experience and hopes to continue to learn and develop.
“This regular season was a great experience for me, training with these guys at a high level,” Maxwell said.
“There are definitely similarities with playing in high school because it is the same sport, but the intensity is so much higher, everyone is so much better, and the seniors are really pushing the rest of the group.”
Senior Forward Adam Black led the team offensively the past two weeks. Black was named Sooner Athletic Conference men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 21-27 after scoring six goals in two games.
“This being my senior year, I just want to go out as well as can,” Black said. “That means whatever I need to do to help my team win, I’ll do it. If it’s scoring goals, defending, whatever the team needs, I just want to go out there and do it.”
Playoffs begin Friday. The Stars’ opponent for the first game is to be determined.
