A resolution is currently sitting on the senate floor calling for heightened security in Cokesbury Court apartments.
Students have expressed concern to Student Senate about the lack of security in Cokesbury Court apartments.
As of now, the Cokesbury front gates are constantly open, allowing anyone to enter the complex without the use of a keycard. In addition, there are no security cameras around the apartments or in the clubhouse.
“We are hoping to get cameras put up,” Senator Edgars Boitmanis said.
A particular concern that will be addressed in the resolution is the laundry facilities. Residents are concerned with stolen items and the fact that anyone can enter the clubhouse.
To address these concerns, the resolution has several propositions. First, install five cameras in the Cokesbury Clubhouse that will provide 24-hour surveillance. Second, add a signage in the Clubhouse to inform students of the update. Third, officials will have access to the cameras in order to investigate concerns of vandalism or threat.
The resolution will be addressed during senate at 8 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the Great Hall, located in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center. The senate meeting will be open to the public.
