- Fans of stand-up comedy will love Omid Singh’s Subway, in which the comedian and filmmaker recounts the tale of an unfortunate public transportation experience. - Wake Up Juice may not have much of a plot, but it more than makes up for it in style. Directed by Blair Kelly and Tyler Bohlman with action design by The Stunt People, it’s a simple story of a clown, a flower girl, and a pizza delivery guy entering a building with murderous intentions. It’s about as ridiculous as it sounds, but the fight choreography is brilliant, making the film well worth the five minutes it takes to watch. To view the short, click here.
- For something a little more serious, take a look at The Beard, a five-minute short from Yaz Rabadi that’s been selected as a finalist in Canada’s CBC Short Film Face Off. A brief but brutal film, it centers on a man who has been victimized due to his appearance. Rabadi is a master of the slow reveal, waiting until just the right moment to tell us the whole story. The short is a must-see, not only for its technical brilliance but also for its real-world significance. Watch it here.
