- Stephen Lang is set to reprise his role as Colonel Quaritch in future Avatar sequels, despite his character’s apparent death in the first film. Also returning to the franchise is Sam Worthington, who recently revealed that the movie will begin shooting in October of next year. Director James Cameron has already selected screenwriters for all three sequels, including Josh Friedman for the first film, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver for the second and Shane Salerno for the third. - Sony Pictures’ upcoming WII drama Monuments Men has been given a new release date. According to director and star George Clooney, the film will not be ready in time to make its December 18 release date and has been moved to first quarter 2014, taking it out of this year’s Oscar race. - Looper actor Pierce Gagnon has been cast in upcoming CBS drama Extant, starring Halle Berry as an astronaut returning to her family after a year-long solo space mission. Gagnon, 8, will play Berry’s son. His other credits include Rio 2 and Tomorrowland. For more on Gagnon’s career, click here.
- Fox has acquired the movie rights to Samantha Shannon’s sci-fi novel The Bone Season. The book, the first in a series of seven, follows a 19-year-old clairvoyant who is taken to a secret penal colony at Oxford. The Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis is set to co-produce the film adaptation, though he will neither direct nor act in it. To read more on the project, click here.
