Lesley Black has replaced Corey Hill as associate director of student development.
Hill now works as the director of education programs at Kappa Sigma fraternity in Charlottesville, Va.
Hill also previously served as the interfraternal council adviser.
Black also will serve as adviser for Student Senate and OCULeads, a program for new students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership potential throughout their high school career.
Black also assists with student conduct issues.
“I’m really exited to work with students,” Black said. “I’ve done that in previous positions, and that’s what my real passion is.”
Black attended Hendrix College, a private liberal arts college in Conway, Ark.
She was drawn to OCU because of its similar environment. She came to OCU after earning her master’s degree at the University of Georgia in Athens, GA.
As senate adviser, Black will meet with Edgars Boitmanis, vice president of Student Government Association. She also will make presentations at Senate meetings.
“She has a lot of understanding about the process, even though she’s very new,” Boitmanis said.
“She’s adapting to the OCU environment very quickly. She really fits in here.”
Black was not involved in student government in college.
“It can be challenging, but it’s a lot of fun,” Black said.
Black began her position in September, after the academic year had already started.
“It was a really crazy experience,” Black said. “It was definitely sort of jumping right in, which was great in a lot of ways.”
Black said her favorite thing about the OCU campus is the sense of community.
“I have already met a ton of people,” Black said. “I’ve really liked that. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people quickly. I’ve met some really, really nice people who’ve been super helpful in helping me figure out what I’m doing.”
Black said she is excited about her position. In addition to her major duties, she also sits on the Title IX committee.
Title IX is a law that forbids sex discrimination in all university student services and academic programs. The committee also provides information regarding sexual assault.
“It is sort of evolving as I figure out exactly what I’m doing,” Black said.
“I’m really enjoying it so far, and OCU, I think, is going to be a really good fit.”
