The 2013 Homecoming committee revealed the theme for the competition on Sept. 30.
The 2013 Homecoming theme is “Start.” The competition will begin Oct. 28.
The theme is a reflection of growth for the campus and surrounding community, said Caleb Dicke, dance performance senior and Homecoming commissioner.
“I am really excited about the new school logo, the new sorority and the new Uptown 23rd district,” Dicke said. “It all boils down to a sense of community at OCU.”
Phi Mu plans to participate in Homecoming this year, but not in the Sweepstakes portion of the competition.
The new sorority plans to participate in the Lip Sync competition and the window painting.
Local businesses will also be hosting the Uptown 23rd St. Night on Oct. 30.
Some restaurants and local businesses, including Big Truck Tacos at 530 NW 23rd St. and 23rd St. Body Piercing at 411 NW 23rd St., will give discounts to OCU students who wear their Homecoming shirts.
Seniors who are a part of participating organizations are invited to go to Belle Isle Brewery at 1900 NW Expressway with alumni after the Lip Sync competition.
Events for alumni include an Alumni Band performance at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Atrium in the Wanda L. Bass School of Music.
Petree College will host an alumni reunion. At noon, there will be an all-campus, all-alumni picnic at the Team One Pavilion on the West Lawn.
Organizations will compete in the sweepstakes competition in different
categories, including Lip Sync, Spirit Structure, window painting, and participation.
