- Disney has decided to close Pixar Canada, which operates out of Vancouver. The shutdown will eliminate 100 jobs. “The team at Pixar Canada is incredibly talented and we are so proud of the excellent work we have produced there,” a Pixar spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday. “However, as we look at the creative and business needs of our studio, we’ve made the decision to refocus our efforts and resources under one roof in Emeryville and will be closing the studio in Vancouver.” To read more on Pixar’s recent business decisions, click here.
- The first annual Bacon Film Festival has been set for October 17 in New York City. The event will consist of one night of screenings, featuring 11 short films all revolving around bacon. Chopped judge and chef Chris Santos and MTV News film correspondent Joshua Horowitz are slated to host the festival, which will take place at Sunshine Cinema and will include a first prize of $11,000. - Quentin Tarantino is set to visit the Busan Festival, a South Korean film festival, on Friday. He is expected to host a public talk session with director Bong Joon-hoo. Tarantino has recently been in Macau to receive a Huading Award and will next week receive a Lumiere Award in Lyon, France, for “his radiant passion for cinema [and] for the tributes paid even within his films to the whole mythology of cinema.” To read more on Tarantino’s career, click here.
- Comcast and Twitter have announced a new partnership that will include a new feature that will allow TV viewers to record and watch NBC Universal programming directly from the social media platform. Comcast subscribers will be allowed to watch and record shows via a new “See It” button, which will launch on Twitter in November. For more on the feature, click here.
