Alvin’s Café released a new dollar menu Oct. 7.
The menu features new items that cost less than $2. Menu items include chips, candy, fruit, taquitos, hot dogs, and various types of slider sandwiches.
Alvin’s Retail Manager Nirali Mickow created the dollar menu after learning about students’ interest in cheaper food options. Mickow said this will stretch students’ meal plan points.
“After midterms, a lot of students run out of points, and they are relying on credit cards or cash,” Mickow said. “This dollar menu will help them out a lot.”
The menu is designed for quick snacks and light lunches.
“One meal can come out of the dollar menu,” Mickow said. “It will save a lot of money.”
Many students go to Alvin’s because it is convenient.
“I live off campus, so I come to Alvin’s out of necessity when I don’t have the time to cook for myself at home,” said James Grandjean, vocal performance senior.
“A dollar menu with healthy options at Alvin’s would be a godsend.”
This is not the first change made to the Alvin’s Café menu this year. Fitness Break smoothies with energy and protein boosts were recently added.
“It’s something healthier for students,” Mickow said. “They can make it a meal replacement or add protein after their workouts.”
Alvin’s Cafe also added a hot dog roller, Snapple products and Yoohoo chocolate drinks this year. Alvin’s officials plan to add corndogs to the menu.
Mickow is open to student suggestions.
“Without student suggestions, I don’t think Alvin’s could survive,” Mickow said.
