The OCU chapter of Amnesty International is getting involved in helping out all around the world.
Amnesty International is a human rights organization that has over 3 million members in 150 countries.
Amnesty International is currently focusing on stopping the Gaza Blockade. No one is allowed to leave the Gaza Strip in the Middle East, and Israel is prohibiting Palestinian students who live there from going to college.
“All of these rights are being violated, and Amnesty is committed to protecting human rights,” said Alley Agee, treasurer of OCU’s Amnesty chapter. “OCU is passionate about this specific thing because as students we can relate to wanting to go to college.”
Amnesty is helping raise awareness, and is also circulating a petition that will go to President Obama and several members of Israel’s government.
Anyone interested in joining the group can attend a meeting, which are held every other Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Room 403 in the Dulaney-Browne Library.
“It is a great organization,” Agee said. “We’re really focused on informing students around the world, and informing them on what is going on elsewhere and why we care.”
