The men’s golf team won the preview title at the NAIA Preview on Sept. 17 in Daytona, Fla.
The men took first place by three strokes.
They are unanimously ranked first in the Golf World coaches’ poll for the upcoming season.
The team has won nine NAIA titles in 12 years and are the current National Champions.
Carding 74-70-67 – 211 to take an individual first place, Senior James Marchesani of Rosebud, Victoria, Australia, took the title.
He had 11 birdies.
He took the title outright in a playoff after tying for first place in the final round.
Close behind James was Sophomore Anthony Marchesni pushing his sibling with an individual finish of eighth place after he carded 71-73-72 – 216, sinking 10 birdies.
The Marchesanis both gained All-American honors last year.
Though they are the only members of the top five to return this year, they are excited for the new season.
“It was a great start for the team,” James Marchesni said. “The new freshmen have started extremely well.”
The Marchesanis and the rest of the team hope to turn their strong start into another national title.
“We are always looking for ways to improve individually and as a team, and to start off with two wins from two starts really gives us confidence going forward,” Anthony Marchesni said.
The team’s next tournament is Oct. 14-15 at the 41st U.C. Ferguson Classic in Lincoln Park, Oklahoma City.
