- Sherlock and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey actor Martin Freeman has been cast in FX’s upcoming limited-series adaptation of Fargo. Freeman will star alongside Billy Bob Thornton in the 10-episode series, which will be produced by Joel and Ethan Coen, the creators of the 1996 feature film. - Django Unchained actor Christoph Waltz is in negotiations to star alongside Alexander Skarsgard in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Tarzan reboot. Waltz would reportedly play a military figure that crosses paths with Tarzan in the jungle. A November start date is projected for the film, which will be directed by David Yates. - Popular Fox series Bob’s Burgers has been renewed for a fifth season. “Bob’s Burgers is one of those rare finds that just continues to outdo itself, creatively,” said Fox’s chairman of entertainment Kevin Reilly. “The show has become a key member of our Sunday Animation Domination family, and we’re looking forward to attracting new fans with another season.” For more on the series, click here.
- United Talent Agency cofounder and CEO Jeremy Zimmer has predicted that interest in spectacle-driven film franchises will decrease in the near future, along with renewed interest in story-driven movies. “I think a lot of issues conspired to lead us to a place where I think the quality of the studio product has suffered,” Zimmer said at a public event on Thursday. “Part of that is technology. Technology became the opportunity to do things as a filmmaker, digital technology, CGI, 3D, was so exciting. [It was] ‘Wow, we can do anything.’ You create this over-reliance on scale and hoopla and sound effects and special effects and noise, and you become less dependent on the story.” For more from Zimmer, click here.
