Lambda Chi Alpha is hosting their philanthropy week for Feeding America this week.
The week’s events include a karaoke night, a chili cook-off, a volleyball tournament, and a celebratory toga foam party.
The karaoke party was Monday night outside the caf. Lambda Chi collected canned food from attendees.
They also began collecting change and will continue to do so through Friday.
“For every dollar that we raise, it can serve up to eight people,” said Darius Wright, music theater senior and social chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha. “One dollar can do so much.”
They are scheduled to host a chili cook-off at the Lambda Chi House this evening.
“All the brothers will split up into teams and make different kinds of chili,” Wright said. “It’s kind of fun to get people to come and judge which chili is the best.
“It’s also a good time to come and to socialize and to eat.”
The fraternity is also sponsoring a Can-N-Ball volleyball tournament 7 p.m. Friday at the Lambda Chi Alpha house.
There is a $100 prize for the winning team.
The tournament will be followed by their toga-foam party, which the organization has typically hosted as part of their recruitment process.
People who participate in Can-N-Ball will get into toga foam free.
September is national Hunger Action Month.
“We feel like with the singing, and with chili cook-off, with eating and playing volleyball, dancing and socializing, we’re doing action to help fight hunger,” Wright said. “I feel like those smiles here will reflect those smiles when, say I can eat for a day, or that one person can eat for a day.”
“I’m most excited about chili cook-off, because I like eating food and I kind of like cooking,” said Jordan Pierce, biology junior.
The chili cook-off, Can-N-Ball, and toga-foam will each have an entry fee of $5. All three of these events are scheduled to occur at the Lambda Chi house.
