The Oklahoma Children’s Theater and OCU are co-presenting And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank.
Working with the children’s theater allows acting majors to experience a show designed for children.
“I think the children’s theater is really beneficial, especially since we have a theater for young audiences major. It’s a great way to let them interact with a full scale children’s theater program,” said Michelle Tewksbury, design and production sophomore.
The show depicts the life of Anne Frank through two holocaust survivors and childhood friends, Ed Silverberg and Eva Schloss.
And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank will be directed by Oklahoma Children’s Theater Director Elin Bhaird and will include OCU students as actors.
The production will be a unique experience due to its multimedia design. The play combines videotaped interviews with Ed and Eva with live actors reenacting scenes from their lives. Ed was Anne’s first boyfriend, and his name can be found throughout the beginning of her diary. Eva lived in the same building as Anne and also went into hiding.
Corrinne Mica, acting and theater for young audiences junior, says working with multimedia is a different experience from a normal show. She plays the role of young Eva in the show.
“It’s really different because you are not only interacting with people on stage, but you have to be intuitive to people on the screen as well,” Mica said.
The show is written as a theater for young audiences play. However, while this drama is presented by the Children’s Theater, the show is recommended for students fifth grade and up because of some graphic content.
The production will take place in the Burg Theatre. It will be shown Sept. 19-22 and September 26-29. Thursday shows will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday and Saturday shows will be at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday shows will be at 2:00 p.m. Student tickets will cost 9 dollars and can be bought online at the OCT website or at the box office.
