After a summer of training and competing, the men’s rowing team is ready for a new season.
Senior captain Matt Maddamma, along with juniors Jackson Anderson and Matt Mahon, represented Team USA for the U23 World Championships in Linz, Austria, where they earned a 19th-place finish in the Men’s Lightweight Double.
Maddamma plans to carry his success from the summer to the regular season.
“I would like to continue to work hard and gain as much speed as I can, while of course staying healthy,” Maddamma said.
The team expects solid contributions from many new faces, such as freshman Hunter Bingham.
Senior Mike Pitts shares the team’s positive outlook on the season to come.
“The chemistry within the team has kicked off very well and the freshmen are mending in well, which is always a good sign,” Pitts said.
The team will begin their season at the Head of the Oklahoma on Oct. 5 and 6.
“Usually I’m pretty nervous going into the event but I use that nervous energy to get fired up,” Pitts said. “My goals for the season are to really just focus on working hard and winning.”
The Oklahoma Regatta Festival will take place from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6 at the Boathouse District on the Oklahoma River.
