Not a Sooner or a Cowboy, but a Star.
There have been lots of reactions on campus to the Miss America 2013 pageant. Yet it seems almost all of campus was able to unite behind a fellow star, Kelsey Griswold. The title for this article came from what our Miss Oklahoma said in the prelims:
“In a state where you can go to school be a Sooner or a Cowboy, I chose to be a Star”.
And in a sense, all of us at OCU chose to be Stars. Rather a performance major or a business major, we are all united by the fact that when we walk across the stage at graduation, we will all touch the Gold Star. All of our diplomas will have the same seal on it. We are all Stars.
During Homecoming it sometimes feels like the campus is more divided than unified. Yet perhaps this year we can carry on the spirit, enthusiasm, and unity that was stirred up on September 15th in the University Center. Maybe this year Homecoming won’t be all about our individual organizations, instead this year Homecoming can be a celebration that we all chose to be Stars, where we found friends and family that have truly shaped us into the citizens that we are today.
That’d ‘twerk for me.
