The volleyball team is starting their new season ranked third in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Coach Nikki Dieball and her unit are bringing a different approach to this season.
With only one new player and a majority of players returning, it is the continuation of work that started off last year with a core of talented incoming freshmen.
“We were able to start preseason just where we left the season off last year,” Dieball said. “The girls worked really hard and I’m very happy with our effort during this entire preseason.
“It should be a really good season, the girls are coming along and really starting to find their groove.”
The Stars are returning 13 letterwinners from last year.
While the majority of them were only freshmen last year, they had a big impact.
Sophomore Setter Hannah Mitcham said she is proud of the improvement of the team’s mindset since the beginning of the season.
“This year we came in knowing what to expect, so we were able to get down to business a lot quicker,” Mitcham said. “We’ve been playing together for a year so we have more experience.”
The Stars recently competed at the Mariner Invitational Tournament in Georgia where they took two wins and fell short in the other two games.
“We started off the tournament really strong,” said Anna Gentry, senior defenisve specialist. “We played hard against those tough teams.
“We have some key things to work on, and there is always room for improvement.”
