Another season of soccer has kicked off at OCU under the direction of Coach Brian Harvey.
The men’s and women’s teams are ranked in the Southern Athletic Conference and have many fresh faces.
OCU men are ranked second in the SAC preseason and return Senior Adam Black at striker.
Black of Liverpool led the team with 12 goals and 28 points a season ago.
“I’m looking forward for the conference season to start to see if we can go further than my pervious seasons and challenge for the conference and make nationals, as this is my final year to play,” Black said.
The Stars also added depth to their defense with transfer from Missouri State, Danny Frid.
Frid also played at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla., where he scored 12 goals and dished eight assists as a freshman.
He was named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference defensive player of the year.
The Lady Stars have gained their highest pre-season rank ever, coming out at No. 8 in the nation.
Senior Forward and two-time All-American Megan McMahon is returning for her final year with the Stars after scoring 27 goals, 12 assists and 66 points in becoming the SAC player of the year and offensive player of the year.
“We are going to have a way more challenging year with losing so many solid seniors,” McMahon said. “There will be no easy games, but still hoping to make it back to nationals.”
Joining McMahon at the forward position are Senior Ariel Bayatfar and Sophomore Allison Worsham.
Worsham scored 18 goals, six assists and was named a second-team all-SAC performer last season.
