Student Activities Council is sponsoring the annual Oozeball Tournament on Saturday, on the Freede South Lawn.
Thad Ernst, religion junior and president of SAC, encourages Greek organizations, sports teams and groups of friends to organize teams and participate.
“Anyone who walks on this campus can join the fun,” Ernst said.
Last year, 10 teams participated in the tournament.
Ernst said he anticipates a larger turnout this year.
Oozeball is a volleyball tournament played in eight inches of mud. Oozeball is played with regular volleyball rules in a tournament bracket.
“It sounds like a blast and a great way to exercise,” said Kendra Comstock, vocal performance freshman.
The court is made by lining the outside with hay, bringing in truckloads of dirt and having local firefighters spray the field.
Students are encouraged to come and help smash up the field prior to the event, Ernst said.
“A great fun, messy event before buckling down into the college life,” Ernst said.
Students can form teams by signing up through an email sent by SAC on Sept. 9. There is no entry fee.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top teams.
If the event is rained out, the rain date is scheduled for Sept. 21.
