The deadline for contestants to enter the Miss OCU pageant is less than two weeks away.
Women interested in competing in the pageant should contact Kathy McCracken at Kathlene-Mccracken@ouhsc.edu or Darwina Marshall at dmarshall@macu.edu by Sept. 20.
The pageant, a long-standing campus tradition, will return in October.
Miss OCU, a pageant in the Miss America circuit, is planned for Oct. 19 in the Kirkpatrick Auditorium in the Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
The Miss OCU pageant is separate from the university, but the two work together to produce the pageant every year.
The winner of Miss OCU receives a tuition scholarship, is named to the board of directors for the next pageant, and is invited to participate in Miss Oklahoma.
She also receives guidance and advice for the state-level pageant.
Contestants compete in talent, swimsuit, evening gown, and interview portions, all leading up to the crowning of the new winner.
McCracken, an OCU alumna, has been on the Miss OCU board of directors since the pageant began in 1982.
“This is a very awesome pageant as far getting support for the next step,” McCracken said.
The winner of Miss OCU becomes an ambassador for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. She also promotes her own philanthropic platform.
Sarah Beth White, dance performance senior and the current Miss OCU, supports children’s literacy for her platform.
“Two classes at Gatewood Elementary received books because of our efforts on campus,” White said. “It has just been so fun.
