Men’s and women’s cross-country teams have begun a new season.
The men’s team is ranked for the first time in the program’s history, taking the No. 15 spot in this year’s coaches’ poll.
After finishing 37th overall in the NAIA Championships and earning all-SAC honors last year, Sophomore Runner Arya Bahreini is set to have an exciting season once again.
Bahreini is confident about himself and his team. He expects to finish in the top 10 at nationals this year and bring home a conference title.
“We want to put OCU on the map for teams that you don’t want to mess with,” Bahreini said.
The men’s team has many new members: Sophomore Peter Koskey; Freshmen Chris Lowery, David Mountford, Caleb Pellikan, Mackenzie Wahpepha-Harris; and Junior Kyle Wardell.
Meanwhile, the women’s team added five new members: Freshmen Chloe Boehlke, Madeline Boehlke, Sylvia Hayes, Sara Moore and Junior Denet Sang.
Moore, a freshman from Omagh, Ireland, said she is excited about the season.
“As a team, we have a very strong group of athletes, all of which are dedicated and train well,” Moore said.
Although Moore is a long way from home, she was able to begin her training before she came to the U.S.
“Coach Holt was in contact throughout the months leading up to me moving out here, so I was following his training, providing me with an endurance base to get me fit for a tough season,” Moore said. “It has been interesting, but exciting.
“I’m enjoying the sun and exploring a new place.”
