Okie Fest will not happen this year due to recent budget cuts.
Okie Fest is a celebration of Oklahoman culture dedicated to international students and students from out of state. Okie Fest is an opportunity to share food, music and culture that is unique to Oklahoma.
Typically the event serves Oklahoma foods such as chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. The food is accompanied by music and a booth where people can participate in Star Connect.
However, Star Connect was recently discontinued. SGA and Director Clint Normore of Multicultural Student Association decided that funds could be better spent to promote International Awareness Week in October.
“It was an executive decision that was done with careful consideration and a lot of fact finding,” Secretary Terrance Craft said.
SGA believes that International Awareness Week will help raise better relationships between international and domestic students.
