New changes in the OCU honors program will boost involvement among members of the program.
In addition to the formation of an Honors Student Council, the program is enacting new rules and regulations.
“I hope [the changes] encourage upperclassmen to stay involved in the program,” said Addison Broberg, honors student professional and marketing senior.
There are two major rule changes.
All honors students must participate in some kind of honors activity every third semester.
Students may take an honors class, complete an honors contract or serve on the Honors Student Council.
The second new requirement limits participating students to two honors contracts per semester.
The Honors Student Council is also a new part of the program.
The council will act as an advocate for honors students.
They will be responsible for planning events for honors students and, possibly, adopting a philanthropy.
“I think the Honors Student Council will help clear confusion about the program,” said Cody Carson, marketing/economics senior.
The Honors Student Council will host an orientation meeting for new and current honors students to further explain the new requirements and answer any questions.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in Room 151 in Walker Center for Arts and Sciences.
