A touring art exhibit featuring Golden Kite children’s book award winners will be on display in the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery, located within the Norick Art Center.
The exhibit “Golden Kite, Golden Dreams,” will be on display October 20. A public opening reception is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 25.
The exhibit will feature award winners from 1975 to 2010. It will include many artwork forms, including ink, acrylic and paper cutting, all from prestigious and influential children’s book illustrators. There are 75 pieces of art by 50 artists represented in the exhibit.
OCU’s artist in residence Mike Wimmer is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, who present the Golden Kite Awards.
Wimmer, a renowned children’s book illustrator, said the exhibit gives local residents an opportunity to see some of the best work in the field.
“People of all ages – the young and old alike – will appreciate the many treasures we have on display,” Wimmer said. “Imagination is perhaps best expressed in artwork intended for a younger audience, and these are some of the greatest illustrations that help enlighten their relationships with books.”
The exhibit is made possible by donations from Enable Midstream Partners, LP and OGE Energy Corp. It is sponsored by the Oklahoma City University School of Visual Arts, and is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature.
Admission to the Nona Jean Hulsey Gallery is free to the public. The exhibit will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon. through Fri., and 2 p.m. to 5p.m. Sun.
