This year Oklahoma City University has seen an increase in the number of entering freshmen students.
There are about 340 domestic freshmen and 10 international freshmen students. Last year there were 326 students total in the freshman class.
Enrollment services was pleased with the increase, Kevin Windholz, vice president for enrollment management, said.
“We made a lot of changes in enrollment advancement, and the increase is a testament to our changes,” Windholz said.
Windholz said he expects the final number for this semester will be about 350.
“We will lose and grow a few over the first weeks,” he said.
The greatest increase in students was in the school of theater, followed by the school of music, Windholz said.
Sixty percent of incoming undergraduates came from out of state, with 37 states represented.
Of the 40 percent from in state, 21 percent of the students are from the metro area.
“Transfer students are slightly down, but that was planned,” he said.
Most transfer students enter the Kramer School of Nursing, Windholz said.
“Last year the school of nursing had a very large number of incoming students, this year we planned to be down,” he said.
Windholz said he expects increases to continue in future years.
“We now start recruiting at the beginning of the junior year,” Windholz said. “I would probably look for a slight increase in the future.”
