OCU students hosted Relay For Life on the quad last Friday and Saturday, raising $26,772 for cancer research.
The event was from 7 p.m. April 5 to 7 a.m. April 6.
Relay For Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society for research, patient services and caregivers.
The event included ceremonies to honor survivors and remember those who have lost their battle to cancer. Liam Bernhard and Erik Wilson, music seniors, hosted the evening’s entertainment.
OCU’s Relay For Life had 183 participants on 18 teams. Participants can continue to raise money for their teams until the end of May.
Melissa Buriak, theater performance senior and four-year Relay participant, said she was surprised that so few people attended the event this year.
“This is always a very busy semester for students at OCU, but there seemed to be a lack of interest as compared to other years,” Buriak said.
For many students, Relay For Life is a fun and rewarding way to give back.
“I loved Relay For Life. It is one of the things I’m really glad I got involved with it on campus,” Buriak said. “I have a home in this organization.”
