OCU’s Housing department kicked off its first ever Dorm Wars, which will run through Saturday.
Dorm Wars is a competition between the dorms and apartments in efforts to win $1,000 for a charity of the dorm’s participant’s choice.
Dorm Wars was designed to provide students something fun to look forward to at the end of the semester, as well as provide opportunities for students to socialize before the year is over.
“I think it will be a good thing for the students to get involved some friendly competition,” said Connie Mix, religion/psychology sophomore. “I also think it will give students an opportunity to get more involved with housing.”
OCU Residence Life pulled together different local businesses and various campus departments to donate the money that will be given to the charity of the winning dorm’s choice. The charities represented are Boys and Girl’s Club, The Urban League, A Chance to Change, Skyline Urban Ministries, Positive Tomorrows and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Dodgeball and Wacky Relay events have already taken place. Upcoming games include a pie-eating contest, a Jeopardy!-style quiz show, Midnight Egg Toss (with glow in the dark eggs) and an obstacle course.
“I am excited – it will be a great way to meet new people,” said Brady Bieber, finance sophomore.
Anyone who lives on campus in the residence halls can compete. Students who are interested in participating can register with their RA. The events are open to all students, faculty and staff.
“This being our first year, it’s exciting seeing our plans and efforts in joining the students, housing staff and entire campus coming together,” said Brittney May, OCU Residence Life assistant.
May is optimistic about the event and expressed desire from the housing office that Dorm Wars become an annual event for the campus.
