Three sororities are scheduled to visit the university within the next few weeks to make presentations.
The three sororities visiting campus are Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta and Phi Mu.
“The Extension Committee looked at all the proposals and evaluated them,” said Lee Hall, director of student life. “These three ended up being the strongest for a variety of reasons.”
The sororities are allowed an hour and a half for their formal presentation, she said.
“I’m not really sure what to expect,” Hall said. “It’s really up to them to decide how they want to use the time they have to present their material.”
After the presentations, the Extension Committee will go through another evaluation process and rank the sororities in order from the strongest to weakest based on their presentation.
“That recommendation is sent to the Panhellenic Council, and they will vote and extend a formal invitation,” Hall said.
Alpha Xi Delta is presenting March 14, Delta Zeta is presenting March 28, and Phi Mu is presenting April 4. All three presentations will be held at Kramer School of Nursing at 1 p.m.
“We would like to announce it by April 22, which is the first Stars 101 date,” Hall said. “We would like to tell our new class of 2017 which sorority will be joining us in the fall.”
Officials hope that the new sorority will bring a different dimension to the university.
“The new sorority will add a greater sense of diversity to the campus,” said Kayla Smith, Panhellenic Vice-President.
Smith hopes that the new sorority will create a greater sense of community in the Greek community and open up a lot of leadership opportunities for women on campus.
“I think my favorite part is that I will have a major role in a piece of history here at OCU,” Smith said.
All are welcome to attend the presentations, but seating space will be limited. Students and faculty should arrive early to get a seat.
