DUI and Fail to Stop at a Stop Sign Sunday, 2-10-13 2:55am; NW 23rd and N. Indiana Avenue; Incident # 13-02-012; arrested: Ravi Udai Sharma (no OCU affiliation) passenger: OCU student (not arrested); impounded vehicle: silver 2003 Acura MDX; Sergeant John Jackson observed a silver Acura to disregard a stop sign at NW 23rd and N. Indiana Avenue. He stopped the vehicle and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the breath of the driver, Ravi Udai Sharma (no OCU affiliation), who was required to exit the vehicle. He further noticed that Mr. Sharma had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. He also failed all of the field dexterity tests provided to him. Mr. Sharma elected to take the breath test and was placed in the patrol unit. The passenger, OCU student, was not under the influence of alcohol and was transported to her dorm by another OCUPD officer. The vehicle was impounded and Mr. Sharma was transported to the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Upon arrival he registered a BAC of .19%.
Non-Injury Vehicle Collision Monday, 2-11-13 8:30am; Kentucky Avenue and Draper Drive (parking lot south of Harris Hall); Incident # 13-02-013; driver # 1: ELS student, vehicle: blue 2004 Chrysler PTC; driver # 2: Cody Allen Blessing (no OCU affiliation), vehicle: white 2003 Buick CCU; Officer Josh Pankowsky was dispatched to a non-injury vehicle collision in the parking lot south of Harris Hall. Upon arrival he met with both drivers who said that driver # 1 was travelling west and stopped to back into a parking space. While backing his vehicle he collided with the front portion of vehicle # 2. The statements of the drivers corroborate with the damage to both vehicles. Photos were taken of the damage and both drivers exchanged insurance information.
Molest a Motor Vehicle Wednesday, 2-13-13 6:15pm; NW 23rd and Blackwelder Avenue (Noble Drive); Incident # 13-02-021; victim: OCU staff member; victim’s vehicle: white 1998 Toyota 4RUN, UT; item stolen: one catalytic converter; Officer Kiel Pepper was dispatched to Nobel Driver in reference to a stolen catalytic converter. Upon arrival he met with the victim/staff member who said that between the hours of 1:00pm and 6:00pm someone had removed the catalytic converter from her Toyota. The officer took photos of the damage. Note: OCUPD officers are making a concerted effort to apprehend the suspect(s) and have been using random surveillance. Police dispatchers are monitoring the real-time surveillance cameras as much as possible.
Public Intoxication Friday, 2-15-13 12:29am; Loeffler Drive (east side of United Methodist Hall); Incident # 13-02-023; arrested: David James Bruster (boyfriend of OCU student); involved person: OCU student; impounded vehicle: white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup; Officer Josh Pankowsky was monitoring the campus surveillance cameras and observed a male and female engaged in an apparent argument on the east side parking lot at United Methodist Hall. Sergeant Michael Kavenius was dispatched to that location. Upon arrival he observed an adult male as he attempted to enter his white Chevrolet pickup. The sergeant repeatedly gave the subject commands to take his hands out of his pockets in addition to other commands relating to officer safety. He was eventually able to handcuff the subject for officer safety. He observed the subject, later identified as David Bruster (boyfriend of OCU student), to have the odor and demeanor of a publicly intoxicated person. Mr. Bruster was placed in the patrol unit. The sergeant then communicated with his girlfriend who was seated in the pickup. She said that her boyfriend was mad at her for undisclosed reasons and she was allowed to return to her dorm without further incident. His vehicle was impounded and Mr. Bruster was transported to the Public Inebriation Alternative Center where he registered a presumptive BAC of .128%.
