The collaborative community service project known as One Give will be back on campus this year.
This year’s event will emphasize ecological renewal in honor of Earth Day.
The event, which is scheduled for April, will include more activities than previous One Give events. As the event draws closer, a specific date will be announced.
One Give is combining with a past event called Renew It to bring awareness of sustainability to campus.
The event will include five competitive activities, as well as a community service project that the entire campus can participate in.
Jaron Reid, Student Government Association secretary of policies and initiatives, is planning the event, along with John Willems, director of special projects and events.
“This is an opportunity for the campus to come together and give back to our community,” Reid said. “I hope as many students as possible come out.”
The event is scheduled to last for a whole day.
Some of the activities include a recycled art competition, ultimate Frisbee and a dumpster diving contest.
Willems said he hopes the prizes that will be given to the winners of each contest will spark interest and draw a crowd.
“This year, we will be giving out an iPad mini,” Willems said. “With great cost comes great reward.”
There will be a service project integrated with One Give. The project has not been determined.
The event will end with Dimit, an effort to save energy.
All the lights will be turned off in campus buildings. A concert will commence on the quad, and dinner will be served outside.
“Hopefully, it will be very successful,” Reid said.
