Student Senate approved Student Government Association’s Spring 2013 budget at the Jan. 22 Student Senate meeting.
The budget was passed unanimously on the first vote.
There is about $149,000 available to SGA for the semester, including all event and operating costs and salaries.
The funds are split among the various branches of SGA.
About $48,500 of that is reserved for the Senate, which encompasses rolling appropriations, allotments and development.
This includes leftover funds from the Fall 2012 semester.
SGA funds come from fees that all students pay as a part of their tuition.
SGA President Robin Ladd said the focus for the budget is giving more allowance to Student Senate, student activities and the Student Bar Association.
“We wanted to give more funds to the Student Bar Association,” Ladd said. “We set aside $9,000 for them right away.
“We want to bridge the gap between Student Senate and the law school.”
If a group or organization needs funding, Ladd said students to contact their Student Senate representative for more information.
Amanda Wright, acting freshman, said the budget needs to be better publicized to students.
“The budget sounds good,” Wright said. “I just didn’t know about it.”
Copies of the budget are available in the SGA office located behind Alvin’s in Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center.
