The exercise and sport science department has made an agreement with Angelo State University to help graduates further their education.
Any student who graduates with a 3.5 GPA and meets Angelo State’s requirements is guaranteed an interview with the university’s program.
The agreement gives students an advantage because they don’t have to wait for physical therapy school.
The agreement gives them an advantage in getting a seat in the doctoral physical therapy program, said Jason Miller, assistant professor of kinesiology and exercise studies.
“It doesn’t guarantee a seat, but PT school is very competitive, so anything helps,” Miller said. “Students should certainly not have a problem getting a seat at Angelo State University if they met all the requirements.”
If accepted, students will be required to take exercise science courses as well as chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and upper-level biology, he said.
“Every school has an exercise science program, but to be able to give students an advantage and a superior degree at OCU, it is definitely a win-win,” Miller said.
Students must maintain at least a 3.5 GPA requirement to get an interview, but after that, the interview is guaranteed.
“If our students are prepared and they’ve done well at OCU, they have the opportunity to be ‘fast-tracked’ at Angelo State,” he said.
Students who take advantage of this agreement are automatically given the opportunity for physical therapy school.
“Most students I’ve talked to are very excited about it and possibly interested in looking at this agreement we have,” Miller said.
