The baseball team has begun a new season.
Ranked fourth nationally and first in the Southern Athletic Conference, the team is looking to get back to the NAIA World Series and win a national championship.
This season, the Stars are not the only ranked team in the SAC.
No. 5 Rogers State, No. 10 Oklahoma Baptist and No. 16 Lubbock Christian are all looking for a title of their own.
In preparation for the upcoming season, the team has been lifting, conditioning and playing intrasquad scrimmages.
This year, the team has four senior captains. Known as “The Four Horsemen,” infielders Andrew Dennis and Chris Munoz, pitcher Patrick Goelz, and outfielder Cody Ferrell handle any internal problems and are the leaders of the team.
“These are guys that have proven last year that they have some leadership ability,” Coach Denney Crabaugh said. “I’m pleased with how they’ve done.”
After losing four players to the MLB last year, including Miguel Beltran, Chad Carman and Blake Schwartz, the Stars’ goal is to return to the World Series and win a National Championship.
“Every year this team always has a shot at winning Nationals,” Munoz said. “There’s a five-year streak of getting to the World Series.”
The Stars won their first three games this season.
