When students returned to their dorms this semester found a surprising new addition—exercise equipment.
“The idea came from Star Summit last year,” said Robin Ladd, Student Government Association president. “We’ve had several requests for a 24-hour gym, so I began working on the project over the summer last year.”
Ladd proposed the idea in October, and the equipment was purchased and placed in the dorms a few weeks before start of the spring semester.
“We bought a total of six machines, including four treadmills and two elliptical machines,” Ladd said.
The machines cost about $17,558 and were purchased from PR Fitness equipment in Edmond.
The funding for the equipment came from the Student Service Fee Reserve Committee, Ladd said.
Students living on campus appreciate the new additions.
“It’s nice to have the equipment in the dorms because it’s close to my room,” said Nohemi Evans, dance performance freshman. “I also like that it’s accessible 24 hours because I can go any time.”
The equipment is in Draper, Smith, Banning, Walker, and Methodist halls, and is open to all students.
