Drivers should not be responsible for cars damaged by baseballs.
In the Nov. 7 issue of The Campus, an article addressed the issue of baseballs hitting cars in parking lots around the baseball field.
Officials said posting “park at your own risk” signs absolves the university of any responsibility.
Parking is limited and students are forced to park next to the baseball field. The repairs to the nets of the baseball are insufficient.
I understand that the repairs are a continuing process, but if that’s so, students should not be liable for their cars being damaged by baseballs.
It is the university’s responsibility to ensure the safety of our students.
If a car can be damaged by a baseball, imagine it hitting a student in the head as they are walking to their car. Students must park wherever there is a spot available.
They should not have to be conscious of the baseball program’s practice and game schedule to remain safe on campus.
It’s a ridiculous notion to blame damage on students for parking near a baseball field.
Officials should open safer parking lots rather than posting signs.
Students who can’t find a parking spot elsewhere will be forced to park in lots with the threat of pelting baseballs.
Students shouldn’t be penalized for the university’s negligence.
