OCU will host a rabbi who specializes in Jewish education for this year’s Neustadt Lectures titled “Reading Scripture with the Rabbi” Nov. 15.
The guest lecturer is Rabbi Vered Harris, the spiritual leader of Temple B’nai Israel in Oklahoma City.
The three lectures are free to the public and will include “Reading through a Jewish Lens” at 1 p.m., “The Reading for the Day” at 3 p.m. and “Reading through Art” at 7 p.m.
All lectures will be held in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
Before coming to Temple B’nai Israel, Harris served for 12 years as the education rabbi at Congregation Beth Torah in Overland Park, Kan., where she developed award-winning programming.
She earned her Master of Arts degree in Jewish education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Education and her rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati.
The lecture series was started in 1983 by Walter Neustadt to explore the contributions of Judaic religious traditions on Western civilization and thought.
