The Walt Disney Co. has purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion in cash and stock. The company plans to release a new Star Wars movie in 2015.
Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chair of Lucasfilm, will become the company’s president and serve as executive producer on all future Star Wars films. George Lucas, the franchise’s creator and Lucasfilm founder, will serve as creative consultant.
