The attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya are still undergoing scrutiny.
The topic initiated a heated discussion during the second debate and was re-visited again in the final presidential debate.
A New York Times article reports how Governor Romney and Republicans have criticized the current administration’s initial explanation of the attack after further intelligence contradicted these reports. It was several days until intelligence agencies amended their original response.
While Republicans call this misinformation a “breakdown of national security,” as the New York Times reports, intelligence officials say what they are asking for is unrealistic.
James R. Clapper Jr, the director of national intelligence, said at an intelligence symposium on Oct. 9,“A demand for an explanation that is quick, definite and unchanging reflects a naïve expectation — or in the present case, irresponsible politicking.”
