The men’s soccer team beat Southern Nazarene University, 2-1, in overtime Sept. 11.
Junior Forward Adam Black scored the university’s first goal in the first minute after Sophomore Midfielder Kieran McLachlan passed him the ball.
A player from SNU evened the score during the 25th minute.
McLachlan could have ended the game with his next shot in the 61st minute but received an offside call, sending the game to overtime.
Freshman Midfielder Volney Richardson took a corner kick in overtime, which allowed Black to head the ball in for the win.
Black, who missed a penalty earlier, said scoring both goals alleviated his stress.
“It felt great to get the winning goal against one of our biggest rivals,” he said.
Every game is big, Coach Brian Harvey said.
“It’s very interesting though, playing a formal rival from the Sooner Athletic Conference, who has now gone Division II,” he said.
SNU participated last year in the in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics conference, which is smaller than Division II.
The cheers and support from the Stars’ crowd did not go unnoticed.
The crowd is amazing, Black said.
It is definitely helping us every game,” he said.
The Stars remain unbeaten this season at 4-0-2.
Their next game is against Texas Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. Sept. 18 at Stars Field.
