The university’s election committee counted Student Government Association election votes March 15 and announced five students who will assume SGA positions for the 2012-13 academic year.
Emma Velez, political science/philosophy junior, won the SGA presidential seat. She will serve her second term as president.
Kate Adams, business marketing/mass communications sophomore, and Beatrize Martinez, criminal justice sophomore, will co-chair the junior-at-large seat in Student Senate.
Theresa Hottel, English freshman, and Princess Mangiliman, mass communications freshman, will co-chair the sophomore-at-large seat. in Senate.
Results for SGA elections will not be finalized until 7 p.m. March 17, despite that election polls closed at 7 p.m. March 15.
A university policy allots 48 hours for candidates to challenge the election results if they discover any irregularities, said Dr. Rick Hall, vice president of student affairs. It gives time for the committee to review the outcomes.
“If there were a concern expressed that turned out to be turn, then it would change the election results and we’d need to review them,” he said.
Officials also will announce voter turnout when the election process concludes.
