Rarely in Oklahoma do we get the chance to see all of the films nominated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences before we watch the Oscars. But the Oklahoma City Museum of Art is doing an outstanding job of bringing the lesser-seen categories to their screen for all to see.
Over the weekend I had the most wonderful experience watching the Oscar nominated short films, both live-action and animated. They were incredible.
It is so refreshing and engaging to see the work of other countries and view things from a different perspective than our own, or, as often happened, realize that we are all not so different.
There was a beautiful sense of global community and connection as I sat and watched these films in the museum’s packed and lavishly decorated movie house. We all laughed. Some cried. It was a great time.
My favorite live-action short was Pentecost, from Ireland, which tells the hilarious tale of a young boy torn between being an alter boy and playing football.

The best animated short, in my humble but correct opinion, is A Morning Stroll, from Great Britain.
This zany, but loosely true, tale spans 100 years in New York City, and involves stick figures, zombies and a lovable chicken.

But don’t wait, you’ve got lots to see.
Visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art Today, and start watching! It’s only $6 a ticket for students, and there is a fantastic (if somewhat pricey) cafe to dine in before or after your show. What are you waiting on?
