The music school’s Guest Artist Series, which brings world-class musicians to campus, is well into the 2011-12 line-up of performers.
The next performance will feature renowned baritone soloist Kurt Ollmann at 3 p.m. Sunday in Petree Recital Hall in Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
Ollmann is internationally known for singing the part of “Riff” in West Side Story and recording with Leonard Bernstein at Deutsche Grammophon, a German recording label, according to the series’s online biography of Ollmann.
The bio also reads that he has sung for numerous composers, including the acclaimed Peter Sellars, in which Ollmann played the title role in the original production of Don Giovanni.
Ollmann is “a clear, eloquent baritone, negotiating every stylistic turn with the utmost grace,” according to a review from The New York Times.
His Sunday performance will include songs by Schubert, Duparc and Poulenc, and David Sisco’s Missed Connections.
Connor Murphy, music performance junior, said he is excited to hear Ollmann’s singing.
“As someone claimed by Bernstein, and as one of the greatest baritone’s of our time, I am ready to see what he has for us,” he said.
Three more performances are scheduled for the remainder this year’s series, said Audrey Heise-Fijalka, administrative assistant to the dean.
Guest talent is decided by suggestions from the music faculty, Heise-Fijalka said.
International performers are not the only artists lined up for this season.
“We’ve got fantastic faculty they will get to see perform,” she said.
Tickets for the performances are $10 and the venue has open seating.
