The mail center, which is overseen by the Campus Store, has been reorganized, officials said.
It was rearranged to better accommodate workflow and reduce some of center’s inefficiencies, said Laura Warren, director of the Campus Store.
One of the changes is limiting access to the mail center to employees and invited personnel, she said.
Individuals who access the center without permission can compromise the mailing and sorting process, Warren said.
“The small area and the sensitive nature of the materials housed in the Mail Center make this a necessary habit that we should all appreciate and respect,” she said.
The Campus Store assumed control of the mail center Oct. 1, 2011, in an effort to maximize the staffing of the Campus Store by filling a supervisor role for the mail center.
Sarah McCorkle, a full-time employee of the university, assumed that role.
“Sarah handles the daily operation of the mail center and supervises the student workers who are in our employ,” Warren said.
McCorkle is creating an environment of greater accountability and an increasing sense of pride in the services, she said.
“We have already done several large bulk mail projects, including the 27,000-piece FOCUS mailing in December, and we continue to explore the options available for the university, the departments and the mail center to save money on its postal needs,” Warren said.
