OCU Stars volleyball team won two matches during the Oklahoma City-Southern Nazarene Classic, Saturday. The Stars beat Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 25-16, 32-34, 25-16, 25-13. Following that victory, the team went on to beat Bethel (Kan.) 13-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18.
The 3-1 Stars scored their second highest single-match team block total with 15.5 blocks, 1.5 behind the 17 scored in their November 2007 match at Wayland Baptist (Texas).
OCU players posted large stats. Danielle Robison, a sophomore from Dallas, had 42 assists, 17 digs and three blocks, while Raissa Santos, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, contributed 12 kills, 22 digs and three blocks. Victoria Cross, a senior from Oklahoma City, reached a career-high of 28 digs.
The Stars came from behind to win the second match, at one point being down 18-12. Meghan Irwin, a freshman from Arlington, Texas, led OCU with 15 kills and three blocks against Bethel.
The Stars take to the court next when they play Northwood (Fla.) at 8 a.m. Central time Sept. 2 in the Embry-Riddle Labor Day Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
